Hitachi and Veolia to cooperate on water infrastructure projects

Japan-based engineering and electronics conglomerate Hitachi has signed an agreement with Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies to cooperate on water infrastructure projects in emerging countries.

The companies will target city and sewage water treatment, seawater desalination and other water infrastructure projects in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Hitachi is looking to accelerate the global rollout of its water environment solutions business. It will make use of the sales channels and expertise in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance (O&M) developed by Veolia.

Earlier this year, Hitachi and Veolia Water Technologies subsidiary OTV received an order for a large-scale desalination plant in Basra, Iraq. The companies will undertake EPC and O&M work over a period of five years.

Hitachi says that it has already provided comprehensive solutions for water infrastructure in emerging countries, including city and sewage water treatment and seawater desalination. The solutions comprise elements ranging from components and systems to EPC and related services.

Veolia provides water, waste and energy management solutions for the communities and industries. It has around 200,000 employees.
