WPL introduces its Miranda RBC for UK market

Wastewater solution provider WPL has introduced a rotating biological contactor (RBC) to the UK municipal market for the first time.

Known as the WPL Miranda RBC will be available in the UK according to a recently signed exclusive distribution agreement.

The secondary treatment system involves inter-connected disks and shafts, which are gradually rotated through motor.

Repetitive rotation enables accumulation of micro-organisms, which facilitates conversion of the pollutants to carbon dioxide and water by means of available oxygen.

WPL sales and marketing director Simon Kimber said: "This next generation RBC technology utilises solid shafts designed to overcome any issues with shaft failure, resulting in lower whole-life costs for utilities. Its flexible modular design means that it can be configured to serve communities ranging from 100 upwards population equivalent."

"Not only do the discs rotate faster, the innovative design has turned the traditional disc system around by 90 degrees, so that the flow runs through the rotating discs rather than along them. This increases the surface area of media per square metre and the contact time between the bacteria and the settled sewage, increasing the efficiencies of the process.

"The result is final treated effluent which exceeds the EU standards for discharge and can be safely released into the environment."
Coming in a modular design, the solution allows customisation through addition of discs and modules.

Other benefits of WPL Miranda RBC include reduced energy consumption, easy transportation and installation, reduced health and safety risks, the company said.

The contactor has also undergone Finite Element Analysis (FEA), which was conducted by TriVista Engineering to ensure its compliance with all water utilities specifications.
