American Water to manage water and wastewater facilities at Picatinny Arsenal

Military Services Group of America Water Works Company has won a contract worth $297m for operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey.

The contract duration is 50 years and is subject to annual economic adjustments.

The Military Services Group under American Water offers water and wastewater services to military centres in the country as part of the US Utilities Privatization Program.

Military Services Group president Jimmy Sheridan said: "Picatinny Arsenal is very important to the nation’s defence, providing products and services to all branches of the US military, and we are honored to be a part of its mission for the foreseeable future."

Picatinny Arsenal is a US military research and manufacturing facility located in Morris County, almost 35 miles west of New York City.

The centre is used for specialised research, development, acquisition and lifecycle management of complex, conventional and advanced weapons systems and ammunition. It houses around 3,900 civilians, mostly engineers and scientists as employees, along with military personnel and contractors.

American Water Enterprises president Sharon Cameron said: "American Water is extremely pleased to be awarded this contract and we look forward to serving the military community at Picatinny Arsenal.

"We will now be serving 11 installations across the country and are committed to providing our servicemen and women and their families with reliable, high-quality water and wastewater services for the next five decades and beyond."

The public utility company also manages water and wastewater assets for US Army Garrison Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, US army post at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, Fort Leavenworth in Kansas and many others.
