Mott MacDonald to expand Rosedale wastewater treatment plant in Auckland, New Zealand

New Zealand-based Watercare Services has appointed Mott MacDonald to design a NZ$63m ($50m) expansion of the Rosedale wastewater treatment plant in Auckland, New Zealand.

Watercare services works under the local government body, the Auckland Council, and is responsible for management of water and wastewater infrastructure in the town.

Expansion of the facility will involve setting up of a three-kilometre pipeline and pump station, an additional primary sedimentation tank, digester and feed tank system, and a modified Ludzack Ettinger reactor for wastewater treatment.

Mott MacDonald will also construct a visitor centre and administration complex at the Rosedale facility.

Mott MacDonald Australasia water practice leader Steve Couper said: "Mott MacDonald has provided professional and monitoring services to Watercare on many of its water and wastewater treatment plants and pipelines.

"We are also part of the team looking at option development and concept design for a major combined interceptor from Auckland’s outer-western catchment direct to the Rosedale plant, known as the Northern Interceptor project."

Expected to be completed by 2019, the project is part of Mott MacDonald’s business expansion plans in the Australasia region.

Upgrade works at the wastewater treatment facility is part of a series of development projects undertaken in anticipation of population growth along Auckland’s North Shore.
