Oxymem selected in Brew accelerator programme to address fresh water challenges

Ireland based startup Oxymem has been selected to participate in The BREW (Business Research Entrepreneurship in Wisconsin) accelerator programme in the US.

Launched in 2013, BREW is a seed accelerator programme that encourages technology start-ups to solve global freshwater challenges.

The programme was developed by The Water Council and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) for water-related research.

Out of the six selected participants, Oxymem is the only Irish and European firm this year.

The chosen firms having potential for commercial business will receive up to $50,000 in investments as a part of the programme.

The start-ups will also be allowed other benefits including subsidised space in the Global Water Center, training through the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Institute for Water Business and mentorship from dozens of area water technology experts throughout the year.

Oxymem operates from its headquarters at Athlone. The firm has invented a innovative technology solution for the wastewater aeration market.

The Oxymem-developed solution uses gas permeable membranes which provide oxygen directly to bacteria for aerobic biological processes, thus offering up to a fourfold energy saving through a compact yet economic infrastructure.
