Perryville city to deploy UV disinfection systems for potable water treatment plant in US

City of Perryville in Missouri, US, has selected ETS-UV technology invented by water filtration and disinfection major Neptune Benson for upgrades at its drinking water treatment facility.

The ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system, which is in compliance with the US EPA Design Guidance Manual and NSF/ANSI Standard 61, was chosen by the city among competitive bids from numerous qualified UV manufacturers.

It is intended to purify drinking water by removing the threat of Cryptosporidium, a chlorine tolerant organism.

City of Perryville Public Works director Mark Brown said: "ETS-UV was selected after careful review of numerous bidders.

"The equipment is built in the US and Neptune Benson has proven to be very responsive throughout the tendering process".

Two of the reactors will be deployed at the facility, each of which will be fitted with four medium pressure UV lamps with automated wipers and have the capacity to treat 1600gpm.

The equipment will be installed between the intermediate clear well, under the gravity sand filters and the finished water storage tanks, on the discharge side of the low lift pumps.

Control system of the reactors will be installed in the outdoor filter bay area and have been manufactured to NEMA 4X which will allow them to withstand unprotected environment.

Neptune Benson’s ETS-UV system has a flexible design and claims to offer ‘a low footprint for an upgrade of this kind’.
