US Water inks agreement to acquire A and W Technologies

US Water, an Allete unit, has reached an agreement to acquire water treatment company A and W Technologies.

Based in Georgia, A and W Technologies provides speciality chemicals and engineering service for water treatment in data centres, light industrial, institutional and food industries.

A and W has been helping customers across the Southeastern US to reduce operating costs related to water and energy usage.

US Water CEO Allan Bly said: "The addition of A and W Technologies to the U.S. Water family will enable our company to provide a stronger focus on data centres, commercial/institutional business, and the food industry in the Southeastern United States.

"We are very excited to have A and W Technologies join the U.S. Water family. Their experienced engineers will be a great addition to our team."

The acquisition is valued at around $9m. It is in line with Allete’s strategy of supporting the continued growth of US Water both organically and through acquisitions as the company grows its presence in the US and Canada.

Allete chairman, president and CEO Alan R Hodnik said: "Today’s acquisition by US Water demonstrates the continued excitement around the energy water nexus."

Based in Minnesota, US Water provides integrated water management for industry, combining chemical, equipment, engineering and service for customised solutions to reduce water and energy usage and improve efficiency.

It currently serves over 3,600 industrial customers.

Earlier this year, US Water launched PhosZero with E-FeX technology for cooling water treatment.

Use of PhosZero cooling water treatment products provides maximum protection against corrosion and scale, while ensuring high heat transfer and maximum equipment efficiency.

US Water said that PhosZero reduces the need for acid use and storage on-site, thus helping to reduce HazMat reporting, insurance costs and chemical handling mistakes.
