Washington’s King County Wastewater Treatment Division deploys Accruent’s EDM solution

King County (Washington) Wastewater Treatment Division has chosen US-based physical resource management solutions provider Accruent’s Meridian engineering document management (EDM) system to manage its technical asset documentation and engineering drawings.

This system will enable field employees to have mobile access to asset documentation and drawings and preserve control of engineering data changes with configurable workflows.

As per the US Environmental Protection Agency, almost 240 million Americans, which is 76% of the population, depend on 14,748 treatment plants for wastewater sanitation in the country.

By 2032, 56 million more people are expected to link to centralised treatment plants, which is a 23% increase in demand.

According to the estimates of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the cost of building additional capacity and replacing deteriorating assets in the country is projected to cross $271bn over the next twenty years.

Given the potential public health impact if these systems fail, the task of managing the maintenance of wastewater infrastructure is essential.

The King County Wastewater Treatment Division cater to over 1.8 million residents and 34 other cities and local agencies in the Seattle metropolitan area. It treats 179 million gallons of sewage daily.

Due to its size and the complexity involved, King County accomodates over 300,000 engineering documents, which have to be readily available to hundreds of users.

Given that the division offers an essential public service, it is important that all employees involved with designing, building, operating, and maintaining these facilities can easily and quickly find and manage the documentation required for effective operation of these complex plants and environments.

The Meridian EDM offers an engineering document and drawings management software system that accomodates engineering documents and drawings and links them with the engineering and maintenance teams that maintain and depend on that information.

Further this system allows organisations to fulfill document standard processes that describe, structure, exchange, and maintain information by classifying asset and document data as per the industry-specific document management regulations.
